Christmas in Asia
This tour starts in Bangkok
This tour starts in Bangkok, the city well-known to be the gateway to Asia for many. Cycle the green surroundings of Bangkok and get onto the “Khlongs” in a private longtail boat to appreciate the city from a whole different perspective.
From Bangkok you travel north, by train. Visit Ayutthaya and Sukhothai, the two ancient cities and cycle from temple to temple through small villages and greenery before you reach Chiang Mai. Waterfalls, national parks and hill tribes await in Chiang Mai.
Hike Doi Inthanon, cycle through Sri Lanna and visit waterfalls that simply blow your mind away. The tour ends in the Golden Triangle, where Myanmar, Thailand and Laos meet. There is no need to visit all the touristy places here with the exception of the very eccentric Wat Rong Khun. Instead, visit Lum Nam Kok National Park and trek from waterfall to village to waterfall to caves and onwards to anything else that is mind blowing.
Length of Tour: 16 days
he tour can be extended with a slowboat to Luang Prabang (Laos) and onwards with further touring through Laos. Also a good option is taking a flight down south to extend at one of the many beach resorts or islands in Thailand. Koh Samui, Krabi, Phuket or Khao Sok National Park could all be included after the Northern Escape.
Outline of the tour
What does our expert say about this tour?
“Many people chose the beaches of Thailand over the natural beauty of my country. I don’t understand why people want to spend 7 days on a beach while they can trek, hike and kayak though national parks. The nature of the north is amazing and the people in this area are incredibly friendly. All these small villages you see along the way. Take time to sit down and enjoy a refreshment with the local people. After you hike to waterfalls and caves, it is just amazing! The mix with our two most historical well-known temple sites is a great plus. Even the two-hour train ride from Bangkok to Ayutthaya is a great experience. I would move up north in an instant if I could, but I am happy to travel a few times a year to guide people there as well.”
