Cuisines of Southeast Asia
Food in Southeast Asia is more than just eating a meal. Food is a way of life. The cuisines of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam are all unique in its own way. From the spicy Tom Yam soups of Thailand, to the heavily Indian influenced lamb curries and chapatti’s of Myanmar to probably one of the healthiest diets in the world in Vietnam, the food of Southeast Asia is something that requires exploration. The lesser known cuisines are those from Cambodia and Laos. When was the last time you went to a Khmer or Laotian restaurant back home? Together with the Seven West Travel Club we created a culinary adventure that introduces the Khmer and Laotian cuisines in its finest way. Seven West Travel Club partnered up with Don Hancey to lead this exceptional tour. Don is a philanthropist, radio personality and food ambassador from West Australia.
The food experience
Don has been visiting Cambodia and Laos for over a decade. He simply fell in love with the people, culture and food. Don brings incredible passion and energy to the table. His love for Cambodia and Laos has translated into the creation of a culinary adventure. It starts in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh. The journey winds its way down the Cambodian countryside to the mighty temples of Angkor and ends in the UNESCO town of Luang Prabang in the north of Laos. On the way you will savor much more than just the taste of food. In Southeast Asia a meal is not just food. It is the time of the day you share stories, memories and love with the people you care about. Food needs to be and exciting experience. Who better to create and lead a culinary adventure than Don?
A culinary adventure
Don is leading this culinary adventure that starts on 24 October in Phnom Penh. He will take you to the people’s homes and have nuns of the pagoda cook for you. You will explore the beauty of Cambodia and Laos beyond the beaten path. The passion Don has for food translates into an incredible journey as he loves nothing more than cooking with local high quality products. The culinary adventure will also benefit those less fortunate. Don is the founder of the charity organization “yescambodia”, which supports Cambodian education and healthcare. To make this journey even more meaningful, the journey is aimed to benefit the local people the most. With visits to Pagoda’s, people’s homes and local farms you will not only meet the people, but also experience and contribute to their lifestyle. Enjoy locally prepared meals by the community and farming activities to make this the trip of a lifetime!
